BREAKING NEWS: Liverpool sign Ilori from Sporting Lisbon


Liverpool have announced the signing of Portuguese defender Tiago Ilori from Sporting Lisbon.
The London-born 20-year-old plays as a central defender and has made 12 league appearances for the Sporting first team and 10 appearances for Portugal Under 20.

Sakho and Moses set for Liverpool medicals

The deals for Mamadou Sakho and Victor Moses will be completed at some point later today once the results of their medicals have been returned. No problems are envisaged.
The only other deal - at this point - Liverpool will pursue on deadline day is a move for Aston Villa keeper Shay Given, to act as cover for Simon Mignolet.

President Goodluck Jonathan has appealed to governors elected on the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to stop disgracing him in public
Jonathan, who is still coping with the unexpected shock he received yesterday when seven governors broke away from the party to form a parallel PDP during the party's mini convention in Abuja, called the governors to a peace meeting at the Presidential Villa on Sunday night.
But as of the time of this report, only 16 of the 23 governors, including those of the G5+ who had been on a consultation tour, had arrived at the meeting, which was being held at the previously-unknown First Lady wing in the villa. Several of the governors hurriedly left Abuja to avoid meeting with the president.

SaharaReporters learnt that the husband of one of the policewomen has appealed to the police authorities to release his wife from detention as well as forgive her for the offence she had committed.
A source in the police station identified the women as Corporals Elizabeth Itona and Jenifer Azingbe, stating that "We heard they have finished orderly room trial for them today (Monday)."

PDP splits; Atiku, Amaechi and 6 other governors form new faction


Nigeria's former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and five other governors walked out of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Convention that held in Abuja today and went to form a faction of the party.

The governors who left the convention with Atiku are: Governor Mu'azu Babangida Aliyu of Niger state, governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State, governor Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto state, governor Musa Kwankwaso of Kano state, and governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara state.

Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa and Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers state, who were barred from attending the convention, joined the other governors, Atiku, and Bukola Saraki in the new factional PDP.

After addressing an impromptu press conference explaining why they decided to form a new faction, officers were immediately elected. Abubakar Baraje was elected chairman, while former Osun State governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola was elected Secretary.
