Lawyers Demand That Governor Suntai Steps-down


The Public Interest Lawyers League (PILL) has demanded that the Taraba State legislature declare Governor Danbaba Suntai unfit for office and and take steps to ascertain his true medical situation; as stated in the constitution.

In a statement made available to Nigerian Telegraph, and signed by its chairman, Abdul Mahmud, the group warned that it would go to court if the demands are not met within seven days.

Last Victim Of Malaysia Bus-Crash Is A Nigerian Student


The body of a unknown woman - killed in the Genting Highlands bus crash last Wednesday and kept at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital mortuary - has been identified.

She was Eitoya Magdalin, a student from Nigeria.

A hospital spokesman contacted by Bernama said that a few of the victim's friends turned up at the department of forensics and identified the body.

“Arrangements are now being made by the authorities to inform the victim's family and next-of-kin to claim the body,” he said.

FG Borrows $1.6b To Expand Power Transmission – Nebo


Minister of Power, Chinedu Nebo Monday said the investments recorded in the telecommunication sector since the introduction of the Mobile Telephone services in the country would be dwarfed by investment in Power sector once the on-going reforms in the sector takes firm footing.

Addressing state House correspondents after a meeting of the Presidential Action Committee on Power, Professor Nebo said so far government has accessed loans from various international lending agencies to fund the expansion of transmission infrastructure to the tune of $1.6Billion.

According to the minister, “We have substantial amount of funding coming in form of loans from the World Bank, African Development Bank, Euro Bond Issue and Chinese Exim Bank and NDPHC had already designated $1.6 billion for the expansion of Transmission facilities in the country.

Osun Sponsors 20 Youths To Germany For Agricultural Training


Osun State Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola has admonished 20 youths sponsored by the state to Germany on a special agricultural training to remain focused there and ensure that they justify the investment of the state as the trip cost over 64 million naira.

Aregbesola gave the admonition during a send-off ceremony for the 20 youths being sponsored to Germany for advanced training in agriculture and food production technology in State of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany.

Driver Commits Suicide Over Police Extortion


A 30-year-old commercial bus driver in Kaduna has killed himself leaving a note in which he said he decided to end his life over alleged police extortion.

Sunday Igwe took insecticide when he could not bear incessant police arrest and extortions, his suicide note revealed. Sunday was hired as a commercial bus driver by a man he named Henry in his letter.

In the note he said police arrested him on several occasions over alleged traffic offences but each time he was arrested, police demanded money from him.

Boy found under Arik plane tyre hole thought he was going to the US




The 14 year old boy who beat airline and airport security at Benin airport on Saturday August 24th and flewin the tyre hole of a Lagos-bound Arik plane actually thought he was on his way to the US.

Sources at Benin Airport said Daniel Ikehina ran away from home because he was being maltreated and was trying to escape from his parents when he joined the Arik flight. Unfortunately for him the plane wasn't flying to the US, it was flying to Lagos where the stowaway was immediately arrested as he alighted from the wheel well of the aircraft. Daniel is presently in the custody of the State Security Service (SSS) who are trying to unravel how he managed to pull off such a stunt.

A 14-year-old boy has been left with the body of a 110-year-old in India because he has a rare disease which makes him age eight times faster than normal.

Ali Hussain has seen five of his siblings die from the same condition called Progeria which is known to affect just 80 people worldwide.
