With AlertPay, your email address serves as your account number. Other users send you money using the primary email address of your AlertPay account. Once you receive funds on your account, you can withdraw it in a number of ways. Unlike, in Liberty Reserve, where you must use an e-currency exchanger, AlertPay also allows direct withdrawals. You can request for a cheque from AlertPay, which you can cash at your local bank in your country. AlertPay also accepts withdrawals of your funds through a bank transfer or a bank wire. In addition, if you add a debit/credit card (Visa/MasterCard), you can even withdraw funds on your AlertPay account to your credit/debit card. Of course, you can still use the services of independent e-currency exchangers to withdraw funds from your AlertPay account.

To make payment with AlertPay, you need to create an account. AlertPay currently supports three types of accounts namely Personal Starter, Personal Pro, and Business account. The AlertPay Personal Starter account is the basic account for users who just want to make and receive secure payments online. The Personal Starter account allows users to send and receive funds free (no transaction fees), but comes with limitation. For example, you cannot receive more that 400 USD in your AlertPay Personal Starter account in a month. Also the total amount you can receive in an AlertPay Personal Starter account is 2,000 USD. AlertPay Personal Pro account has no fund receiving limit and also allows you to easily accept credit card payments. AlertPay Business account offers more options and is recommended for users managing a business under a business name.

Once your account is active you can then fund it in whatever currency you desire. AlertPay currently supports 22 currencies and has members in over 190 countries including Nigeria. Just like in withdrawal, AlertPay also accepts direct deposit to your account. So, you must not deal with e-currency exchangers. You can deposit money into your AlertPay account by sending a cheque or money order to AlertPay. You can also fund your AlertPay account via bank transfer and bank wire. Direct bank deposit is also supported in 46 countries. AlertPay does not support direct bank deposit for accounts in Nigeria. You can still use the services of e-currency exchangers to fund your AlertPay account.

There are a number of independent e-currency exchangers that will exchange your AlertPay funds with other e-currencies. AlertPay currently has six recognised exchangers and advises you to use only them. Unfortunately none of them is based in Nigeria so you may not be able to receive direct deposit into your bank account from them. The route that account holders in Nigeria normally use is to use the services of the recognised AlertPay exchanger to convert their AlertPay funds to Liberty Reserve and then using the service of a recognised Liberty Reserve exchanger to exchange Liberty Reserve to Naira deposit at their local bank.
