CBN: CAN WE NOW DEPOSIT NAIRA EQUIVALENT INTO OUR DOMICILIARY ACCOUNT?

I just received a text today from my bank that CBN has mandated that all foreign transfers e.g. western union, money gram etc should be paid in Naira equivalent to the receivers here in Nigeria , which means that we will no longer be paid in foreign currencies.

I have no problem with CBN asking banks to pay in Naira, my problem or rather question is, if the CBN want us to be paid in Naira instead of the foreign currency sent, should we also start depositing Naira equivalent into our domiciliary accounts instead of going to source for foreign currency from road side sellers (black market) and then taking it to the bank. I think it should work both ways.

There were mixed feelings by Nigerians in describing the power sector 53 years after independence. For some, the sector has gone through an unforgettable process, while others believe that privatisation is the long awaited answer for the sector.

Today is Independence Day. The first of October 1960 is a date to which for two years every Nigerian has been eagerly looking forward. At last, our great day has arrived, and Nigeria is now indeed an independent sovereign nation.
Words cannot adequately express my joy and pride at being the Nigerian citizen privileged to accept from Her Royal Highness these Constitutional Instruments which are the symbols of Nigeria’s Independence. It is a unique privilege which I shall remember forever, and it gives me strength and courage as I dedicate my life to the service of our country.

Ordinary Americans during the Great Depression of the 1930s

xThe Great Depression of the 1930s was an era of such extreme poverty and dramatic economic decline that it remains permanently etched on our collective psyche. One major reason for the lasting impression made by the most widespread and deepest depression of the 20th century is that it coincided with the growth of photography as an art form and the period was well-documented as a result. One of the most famous American photographers documenting the era was Walker Evans, whose beautiful and sometimes haunting photographs captured such detail and emotion that the subjects feel more alive and closer to the present than the past.
